William (Bill) Bennett currently works in Chicago for the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Inspector General’s (ED-OIG) Non-Federal Audit Team. After working as an auditor with ED-OIG’s Chicago/Kansas City audit region for over two decades, Bill joined the Non-Federal Audit Team in 2023 to focus on quality control reviews of recipients of U.S. Department of Education funds. During his time with ED-OIG, Bill has conducted numerous quality control reviews and complex audits of internal Department program offices and external funding recipients, including post-secondary schools, state educational agencies, and local educational agencies. Bill received a degree in Finance from Northeastern Illinois University. He is also a Certified Internal Auditor (recognized with a William S. Smith Certificate of Honor). In recent years, Bill has received numerous ED-OIG individual and team awards along with a Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Award for Excellence.
